Duane Hanf, FSA, MAAA, EA

Duane Hanf (founder of Hanf Actuarial Inc.) has over 30 years of experience as a consulting actuary in the employee benefits field.

Duane has experience with public, private, single and multiple employer plans. He has provided consulting services relating to the design, funding, communication and administration of pension, health and welfare benefits. He has extensive experience in calculation of obligations and costs under GASB45, SFAS106 and SOP 92-6 for insured as well as self-insured plans.

Prior to forming Hanf Actuarial Associates in1992, Duane was a consulting actuary and director of actuarial services with Ernst & Young in Minneapolis and senior actuary of Foster Higgins, Midwest Region.

Duane is currently a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He was formerly a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. He was a member of the national task force for Ernst & Young on retiree medical valuations and accounting issues, and he has published several articles.

Winklevoss Technologies

Hanf Actuarial uses ProVal actuarial software, which was developed and is maintained by Winklevoss Technologies, in performing calculations required by the FASB and GASB medical plans. Winklevoss Technologies has a staff of fourteen actuaries plus support staff that devotes full time to employee benefit actuarial software development for consulting actuaries worldwide.

Twin Cities Enrolled Actuaries Forum

Duane is assisted locally, as needed, by other independent actuaries. He is the cofounder and current president of the Enrolled Actuaries’ Forum in the Twin Cities. The Enrolled Actuaries’ Forum is a group of 25 employee benefit actuaries that meet quarterly for continuing education credit.

Richard D. Johnson
FSA, MAAA, FCA

Rick has over 35 years of experience as a consulting and insurance company actuary. He has extensive experience in the valuation of post-employment benefits and other self-insured and insured benefits.

Rick, now in private practice, was a consulting actuary with Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young for 14 years. Prior to his consulting experience, Rick served as a Vice President of Group Operations and Chief Life Actuary for an insurance company.

Rick is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
